What's really going on?

We're too reliant on property taxes

We're too reliant on property taxes

Our local government has grown out of control. There are 32 taxing districts in Bannock County, each with their own wants, needs, and budgets.  Every penny they spend is a penny taken directly from our pockets.

We need to speak out and let them know the citizens of Bannock County are not an open line of credit they can use to fund their inflated budgets.

The City of Pocatello has one of the highest levy (tax) rates in Idaho and Bannock County is facing its own set of problems.  We must demand transparency, accountability, and fiscal responsibility at all levels of government.

We're too reliant on property taxes

We're too reliant on property taxes

We're too reliant on property taxes

Property taxes are the primary source of revenue for Idaho government.  Our government favors property tax over economic cycles (sales tax, income tax, etc.) because it's the most reliable and least volatile of all major revenue sources.  But when budgets become too big and spending spirals out of control, it's the citizens who end up suffering. Just like what's happening right now.

I understand the need for property taxes to fund government services - police, fire, ambulance, schools, libraries, and so on.  But I also understand that services don't really matter if you're homeless. We are in the middle of a property tax crisis in Bannock County and people are facing the reality of losing their homes.  This is unacceptable, it must stop now!!!

Enough is enough, no more excuses.

We're too reliant on property taxes

Enough is enough, no more excuses.

The time for sitting around complaining is over.  If elected, I will take the fight to the steps of the Capital Building.  I will build coalitions with other County officials and push legislation that offers real property tax relief, not just a temporary fix or meaningless tax exemption.

I will be a voice for the people.  No more excuses or guesswork.  If your property taxes are raised, you'll know why and who's accountable.  I promise to do everything in my power to keep you informed about what's going on and how we can work together to lower our property taxes.

Our key to success is getting involved.  We need loud and proud patriots to stand up and say enough is enough. You can make your voice heard on May 17th by voting CATES FOR COUNTY ASSESSOR.

Remember - Your vote is your voice.
